So this is how it works, huh? Writing for 10 minutes.

I just stumbled over this site on some blog in my feed reader. I like typing and have a big writing project coming up, so I thought this could be the ideal opportunity to “get warm” with writing, as a German saying goes.

Then I read some of the other posts on this site and was astonished how quickly one can read (or skim over) 10 minutes worth of text. But then again, I have no idea how long it takes to type. Yes, there are exercises that measure WPM or similar values, and I participated in speed typing exercises, getting a pretty good score. But that’s only copying text that flyes by on the screen -that’s easy. But how about writing real texts? That’s something completely different.

(And of course, if I didn’t have to correct so many spelling mistakes, that would increase the output tremendously)

Thinking about it, I really like the idea of this site. Thining about finding (or even creating?) something similar for German texts. Just for the fun of it. What I have seen so far of this site is very nice. It’s neat, clean and very easy to use (obviously, if you can read this). I’d probably try to implement some sort of full screen interface, like WriteMonkey or WriteRoom. They maximize the input window to full screen for distraction free writing. I also like the green on black background, and not just for the nostalic feeling to it.

Just now I realize how long 10 minutes are. still 3 more to go. Needed to fight the urge to browse away from this site, check skype or mails, or anything. Having a sip of coke… thoughts wandering. Really need to keep up meditation practice, writing here has quite a similar touch to it.

So, as this session nears its end, I realize these minutes were not the most wasted of all spent on various websites, so thank you very much to the creators of this site for not only having this good idea but actually sticking to realizing it to a usable level. I will bookmark the site and really hope I can be motivated to visit it regularly.

So, for now, so long, I’m off to my scheduled writing task. :-) Time’s up in 3, 2, 1…
